Enrollment, Staffing, and Class Numbers

Even through the summer we can continue to have staffing changes and fluctuating enrollment. Therefore, teacher assignments, class sizes, and enrollment are all being finalized. As of right now, there will be three homerooms in Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, and Third Grade. Fourth and Fifth Grade will have two homerooms, with staffing to assist with smaller class sizes in the two most critical areas of reading and math. More details to follow.

FOCUS Parent Account & Teacher Assignments

Parents can find out homeroom teacher assignments for the 2022-2023 by viewing them in FOCUS sometime in mid- to late-August. Once we know an exact date, we will share it. Therefore, if you have not yet set up your Parent Account, please do so. Directions for creating a parent account can be found here: Creating_a_Parent_Account_in_B2C.pdf . Directions for navigating FOCUS to find report cards can be found here: Parent_Portal_Navigation.pdf. Additional support can be found here: Parent_Student_Help.pdf  Homeroom teacher assignments should also be able to be viewed via the student’s Schoology sign-in after BCPS releases access in mid- to late-August. Students will log onto their device and navigate to Schoology: https://bcps.schoology.com/ (single sign-on should open immediately). This applies to grades 1-5 only; Kindergarten assignments will be sent in a separate email in a few more daysIf your child is a new BCPS first through fifth grader and does not have a Chromebook or username/password, please call the office later in August.

Our staff spends an inordinate amount of time at the end of each school year organizing the following year's class lists. Therefore, 2022-2023 class assignments have already been finalized and changes cannot be made. We are attentive to balancing the classes, academically and socially/emotionally (considering things such as student dynamics, personalities, teacher-fit, flexible grouping/abilities, etc.). While we value parent/guardian input, and take it into consideration, the process that staff follow is extremely important to provide for the success of each child; this is why we cannot honor parent requests (to be placed with a particular teacher or friend) or class assignment changes. Teachers and support staff are best able to see the intricacies of classroom dynamics and “big picture” of the entire class. It is my firm belief that our staff have the best perspective for placing the students, understanding each individual and his/her needs as well as the needs of the rest of the class.
